PITTSBURGH – Davidson outscored Duquesne 15-5 in the 3
rd quarter in their 62-47 victory at the Palumbo Center on Wednesday night.
Chassidy Omogrosso and
Paige Cannon led the Dukes (7-8, 1-1 A-10) with 10 points each.
Sarah Donovan recorded game-highs 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (8-7, 2-0 A-10).
The Dukes scored the first six points of the game and built an eight point lead by the midway point of the 1
st quarter at 13-5. However, Duquesne would go scoreless the final 2:11 as the Wildcats scored the final six points to tie the game at 18-18 at the end of the quarter.
The teams would exchange leads two times in the 2
nd quarter before Donovan's 3-pointer at 3:03 put Davidson ahead by seven points at 31-24. A 3-pointer followed by a pair of foul shots by Omogrosso cut the deficit to two points at 1:24. Donovan's layup closed out the scoring, giving the Wildcats a 33-29 halftime lead.
Duquesne had one field goal in the 3
rd quarter. There was a stretch where Davidson made seven consecutive shots from the field as they built a commanding 48-34 lead.
The Dukes got the Wildcats' lead down to single-digits on three
Amanda Kalin layups that made the score 51-43 with 3:57 left in the 4
th quarter. However, they would only get two more baskets the rest of the way as Davidson's lead would get as many as 17.
