Comeback Falls Short as @DuqWBB Falls to George Washington 55-54

PITTSBURGH – Chassidy Omogrosso's layup up did not drop as time expired, as Duquesne almost overcame a 24-point deficit in a 55-54 setback to George Washington on Sunday afternoon.
 
Omogrosso's led the Dukes (11-9, 5-2 A-10) with 18 points. Kadri-Ann Lass scored 11 and Paige Cannon pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Mei-Lyn Bautista led all scorers with 20 points – including six 3-pointers. Kelsi Mahoney added 17 for the Colonials (8-12, 5-2 A-10).
 
With Duquesne ahead 7-6, GW closed out the 1st quarter scoring by going on a 10-2 run. Back-to-back layups from Maddie Loder and Neila Luma gave GW a double-digit lead at 20-9 with 8:49 left in the 2nd quarter. The Colonials held the Dukes to just one field goal in the quarter as they took a 27-14 halftime lead.
 
GW stayed in control and leading 36-20, Bautista scored eight straight points to put the Colonials ahead by 24 at 44-20 with 2:30 left in the 3rd quarter.
 
A 28-8 Duquesne run made it a two possession game at 52-48 with 51 seconds remaining in the game. Amanda Kalin's basket with 22 seconds left made the score 54-52. Four seconds later, she made a steal, but her subsequent layup did not fall. The Dukes fouled Mahoney, who made one of two free throws – 55-52. With nine seconds to play, GW's Lexus Levy was called for an intentional foul, sending Libby Bazelak to the line. Bazelak converted both and the Dukes got the ball trailing 55-54. However, Omogrosso's drive came up empty as the clock hit 0:00.
