PHILADELPHIA – Duquesne won its fourth straight game after a 66-62 victory at La Salle on Wednesday night.
Julijana Vojinovic led the Dukes (11-8, 5-1 A-10) with 13 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Rayshel Brown scored a game-high 14 points for La Salle (3-17, 0-6 A-10).
La Salle led for all but 23 seconds of the 1
st quarter and built a nine point lead with 5:53 remaining. The Dukes would answer with a 3-pointer from
Chassidy Omogrosso and a layup from
Amanda Kalin to make the score 14-10. A
Libby Bazelak buzzer-beating layup attempt left her hand just after the clock reached 0:00 as the Explorers took a 20-15 advantage into the 2
nd quarter.
Paige Cannon's layup with 3:54 in the 2
nd quarter made the score 28-27 before three straight 3-pointers from La Salle put them ahead by 10 points. Cannon hit a 3-pointer to close out the scoring cutting the deficit to seven points at 39-32 at halftime.
The Explorers went up by nine points early in the 3
rd quarter, but a 9-1 run midway through got the Dukes within a point when
Laia Sole's jumper made the score 42-41 at the 3:21 mark. Bazelak's 3-pointer would tie the game at 47-47 with 23 seconds left.
Duquesne was held without a field goal for the first 3:46 of the 4
th quarter until Lass' layup was one of three consecutive baskets for the Dukes, which gave them a 56-54 lead with 4:17 remaining. La Salle went ahead 61-60 at 1:31 and led for the next 21 seconds until Vojinovic converted a pair of free throws which put Duquesne ahead for good.
