PITTSBURGH – Libby Bazelak's foul shot with 6.9 seconds was the game-winner as Duquesne edged Temple 54-53 on Wednesday night.
The sophomore guard recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Kadri-Ann Lass and
Julijana Vojinovic added 12 points each for the Dukes who close out nonconference play 6-7.
Alliya Butts scored a game-high 15 points for the Owls (4-8).
The game had seven ties and 13 lead changes – five of those in the final 1:48 of regulation.
After taking a 13-9 lead into the 2
nd quarter, Temple was able to get their advantage up to double-digits on a Desiree Oliver jumper that made the score 25-15. The Dukes answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Bazelak and a pair of free throws from Lass that sent the game into halftime 25-23 in the Owls' favor.
The teams grinded it out in the 3
rd quarter, with no lead larger than four points. Shantay Taylor's layup tied the contest at 42-42 heading into the final quarter.
Lass opened up the 4
th quarter scoring with a jumper giving the Dukes a lead they would hold until the 1:48 mark when Taylor's jumper put Temple ahead 51-50. After the teams exchanged baskets,
Paige Cannon tied the game at 53-53 on a foul shot with 44 seconds to play.
Butts missed a 3-pointer on Temple's ensuing possession, which was rebounded by Bazelak – who made one of two free throws with 6.9 remaining. Duquesne utilized the foul they had to give with 3.9 left. Marissa Mackins got the final shot off as the buzzer sounded, but it was short.

- The Dukes' win marks the first time since 1999 and 2000 they have had back-to-back wins over Temple
- Bazelak's previous career-high with eight rebounds against Fordham last season and UCF this season
- The 53 points and 19 field goals allowed is Duquesne's best defensive effort this season
