PITTSBURGH - Duquesne posted its largest margin of victory since 2003 with a 45-0 triumph over visiting Lock Haven in the 2018 home opener on Saturday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
The 45-point victory was the largest for the Dukes since a 62-14 win over La Salle on Sept. 27, 2003. In addition, Duquesne won its 11th-straight home opener and improved to 22-3 in home-opening games at Rooney Field.
Senior wide receiver
Nehari Crawford (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce) hauled in five receptions for 140 yards and a pair of touchdown catches to go with a punt return for a touchdown to lead Duquesne in the win.
The Dukes, who would finish with 460 total yards on the day, jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead as junior running back
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) scored his first touchdown of the season on a 28-yard run followed by a 44-yard touchdown connection from junior quarterback
Daniel Parr (Jupiter, Fla./William T. Dwyer/FAU) to Crawford later in the period. DU's second score was set up after a Lock Haven fumbled forced by junior defensive lineman
Mike O'Malley (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) and recovered by fellow junior defensive lineman
Kam Carter (Germantown, Md./Gaithersburg/Pittsburgh).
Duquesne tacked on three more touchdowns in the second period, sparked by a 44-yard punt return for a touchdown by Crawford on just the second play of the quarter.
Freshman running back
Lucas D'Orazio's (Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio/Cuyahoga) first career touchdown on a one-yard run on the next drive gave the Dukes a 28-0 advantage, before Parr found senior tight end
Stew Allen (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) for a nine-yard touchdown reception late in the quarter to put Duquesne on top 35-0 at the half.
On the Dukes' first march of the third quarter, junior quarterback
Brett Brumbaugh (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) threw his first career touchdown pass, hitting Crawford on a 36-yard touchdown strike to push the DU lead to 42-0.
Duquesne would close out the big win on a 29-yard field goal in the fourth quarter from junior placekicker
John Domit (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield).
Parr completed 10-of-15 pass attempts for 197 yards and two touchdowns while Hines paced the Dukes on the ground, averaging 11.0 yards per carry, finishing with 77 yards on seven touches with a score. D'Orazio added 57 yards on 12 rushes with a touchdown for Duquesne.
Crawford, who finished with 210 all-purpose yards, recorded two touchdown receptions in a game for the eighth time in his career and eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark for the eighth time, as well.
Junior linebacker
Brett Zanotto (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional/Maryland) and defensive lineman
Chris Favoroso (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Jensen Beach/Montana) tallied seven tackles apiece to lead the DU defense. Senior defensive back
Jonathant Istache (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Central) registered five solo stops to go with an interception while fellow senior defensive back
Daquan Worley (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville/Penn State) had his first career interception in the win and freshman linebacker
Jahan Worth (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) scooped up a fumble and returned it 16 yards for the Dukes.
Duquesne limited the Bald Eagles to 195 total yards including 81 yards through the air, the Dukes' fewest passing yards allowed since holding Wagner to 80 yards on Nov. 15, 2014.
Duquesne returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 8 hosting Valparaiso at noon at Rooney Field. The Dukes topped the Crusaders last season in a 45-40 shootout on the road in a contest which featured over 1,000 yards of offense.
