OXFORD, Ohio - Chassidy Omogrosso scored a career-high 31 points to lead Duquesne to a 69-56 victory over Miami University in Round 1 of the WNIT.
Paige Cannon scored 14 and Conor Richardson added 10 points for the Dukes (24-7).
The Dukes did not hold the lead until Cannon's layup at 2:21 of the 2nd quarter put Duquesne ahead 25-23. However, Miami would score the next five points before an Omogrosso layup closed out the scoring with the Redhawks leading 28-27.
Omogrosso opened the 3rd quarter with a 3-pointer, which was the start of a 14-4 run that made the score 41-32 in favor of the Dukes. Miami would answer by scoring the next nine points to tie the game at 41.
An and-1 by Cannon gave Duquesne its first double-digit lead at 57-46 with 5:22 remaining in the 4th quarter. The Redhawks answered with three straight layups in 62 seconds by McCoy that made it a one-possession contest at 57-52 with 3:47 left. But the Duquesne defense only allowed two fields goals on Miami's last 11 possessions.
Up next, Duquesne will face the winner of Friday's Georgetown/Delaware game. The Round 2 date, time and locations will be announced at the conclusion of the Hoyas/Blue Hens contest.
