Sincere Carry had nine points and nine assists and
Marcus Weathers added season-high 13 points to help Duquesne extend its win streak to four with a 72-46 win over Maine (2-10) at the Palumbo Center.
The Dukes (8-2), who never trailed, outscored the Black Bears 31-4 off turnovers in rolling to their largest margin of victory this season.
The win was DU's eighth in a row at home (7-0 this year) and 13th-straight nonconference home victory under second-year head coach
Keith Dambrot.
Eric Williams Jr. added 11 points off the bench for Duquesne, which forced 17 turnovers in jumping out to a 40-16 halftime lead.
Kellon Taylor added a team-high seven rebounds for DU.
Carry had three steals in the opening 20 minutes that saw the Dukes outscore the Black Bears 21-0 off turnovers.
DU never saw its lead slip below 23 in the second half.
Duquesne shot 43.6 percent, including 8-of-21 from the 3-point arc. Maine, which finished with 25 turnovers, went 3-of-15 from the arc in shooting 36 percent.
The Dukes, who led by as many as 31 in the second half, assisted on 17 of their 24 field goals.
Duquesne returns to action when it hosts Penn State (5-5) on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at PPG Paints Arena. The game, set for a 7:05 p.m. tip, will be televised nationally by CBSSN.
NOTES
- Maine's 16 first-half points tied the second-fewest in a half by an opponent in the Dambrot Era.
- This is just the third time in the past 46 years (since 1972-73) that Duquesne has opened 8-2 or better. The others were 2015-16 & 1979-80 (both 10-2).
- The Dukes extended their nonconference home win streak to 13 in moving to 15-2 in nonconference home games under Keith Dambrot.
- Junior Kellon Taylor, in his first extended playing time since rejoining the team following football, had a team-high seven rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.
- Marcus Weathers went 5-of-8 from the field in scoring a season-high 13 points. Weathers, a first-year transfer from Miami, Ohio, has scored in double digits in three of his past four games.
- Six-eight center Michael Hughes (13.7, 5.9), who entered Thursday's games ranked fifth nationally in field goal percentage (.709) was not in uniform for the third-straight game due to a knee injury. In the three games prior to the injury, Hughes was 24-of-30 from the field and averaging 16.7 points.
- Duquesne, which never trailed, took a 59-28 lead on an Eric Williams Jr. 3-pointer with 11:32 left ... the 31-point margin was DU's largest of the game ... Duquesne led for 39:28 ... the game was tied for the first 32 seconds.
