PITTSBURGH - Duquesne lacrosse first-year head coach
Corinne Desrosiers announced the Dukes' 2019 slate on Wednesday morning.
The 17-game schedule in Desrosiers' first season at the helm features 10 games at Arthur J. Rooney Field and seven contests on the road. The Dukes have eight non-conference matchups in addition to the nine-game Atlantic 10 slate.
"For the first year in our transition we made some tweaks in the schedule and have packed in what we see to be a challenging spring, where we hope to start to build the foundation of this program and gain some momentum heading into competitive conference play," Desrosiers said. "We are making changes and I would love for our schedule to also reflect that growth. After a fall full of hard work, we are excited to start playing again this February."
Four of Duquesne's first five games of the season will be played at home beginning with a Feb. 10 matchup against Longwood in the two teams' second all-time matchup. The Dukes topped the Lancers 10-7 in the season opener in 2006 in their only other meeting. DU then hits the road to face Big East foe Butler on Feb. 14 before returning home for three consecutive home contests.
Duquesne plays host to Penn State on Feb. 20 to open the home stand. The Nittany Lions qualified for the NCAA Tournament in seven straight seasons and advanced to back-to-back Final Fours in 2016 and '17. The Dukes then take on Saint Francis U on Feb. 27 and Detroit Mercy on March 3, a pair of teams Duquesne defeated on the road last season. DU is a combined 10-0 against those two teams.
The Dukes then make the short trek out the Parkway West to face off with local rival Robert Morris on March 6. Duquesne owns an 11-2 all-time record against the Colonials. DU then rounds out non-conference play hosting Louisville (March 11) out of the ACC and Central Michigan (March 15).
Duquesne opens A-10 action with a road tilt at VCU on March 22. The Dukes visit defending A-10 Tournament champion Richmond on March 29 and host UMass - winner of nine of the last 10 league titles - on April 5.
DU is then set to close out the regular season with a home matchup with La Salle on April 20 followed by the A-10 Tournament which is slated for April 25-28 at George Mason Stadium.
