OPENING KICKOFF

  • Following a bye week, the Dukes travel to the Empire State to take on Wagner in a Northeast Conference contest on Saturday.
  • Duquesne enters the matchup riding a two-game winning streak following a 27-20 victory at Saint Francis U on Oct. 20.
  • A.J. Hines was named the NEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after posting 256 yards from scrimmage with a pair of touchdowns vs. SFU.
  • Harvey Clayton Jr. earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors, finishing with nine tackles (eight solo) with an interception and two pass breakups for the Dukes.
  • Saturday's game features the two top active leaders at the FCS level in rushing yards per game in Wagner's Ryan Fulse and A.J. Hines. Fulse is averaging 132.4 ypg. for his career while Hines is averaging 114.2. Hines is fifth among active players - and first among underclassmen - with 3,083 total yards. Fulse has tallied 2,515 career yards for Wagner.
  • Duquesne is 8-5 all-time against the Seahawks. The series is tied 3-3 in Staten Island.

QUICK HITS

  • The Dukes have enjoyed a great deal of success in NEC play, claiming four conference titles since 2011. Duquesne won a share of the league crown in 2011, 2013 and 2016 while capturing the outright title in 2015, earning the NEC's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.
  • The Dukes are 16-5 in NEC action since the beginning of the 2015 campaign, including a 9-2 mark at Rooney Field. Duquesne is now 9-2 in NEC openers following the loss to Bryant.
  • DU has recorded 55 wins since 2011, at least eight more victories than any other NEC team. In addition, the Dukes' 32 conference wins in that time span are the most in the league.
  • Nehari Crawford paces the NEC and ranks 12th in the FCS with 751 receiving yards on the season. He is also 11th in the country with eight receiving touchdowns. Crawford's 23 receiving touchdowns since the start of last season are the most at the FCS level.
  • Last week's NEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week A.J. Hines leads the NEC and sits 11th in the FCS with 10 rushing touchdowns on the season.
  • In three conference games this season, Hines is averaging 140.7 yards on the ground with five rushing scores.
  • Duquesne is outscoring its non-FBS opponents 194-112 in six games on the season, including a 74-38 advantage in the second quarter.
  • With the Dukes looking for some depth at the running back position against Robert Morris, defensive back Daquan Worley made his debut in the DU backfield, recording seven carries for 96 yards with two touchdowns, including a 52-yard rushing score.
  • DU linebacker Brett Zanotto is fifth in the NEC with 54 tackles on the season while cornerback Jonathant Istache leads the conference with three interceptions and is tied for second in the league with three forced fumbles on the year. His 11 passes defended also lead the NEC.
  • The Dukes pace the NEC in pass efficiency (143.9), field goal pct. (1.000), third-down conversion rate (44.1 pct), red zone defense (73.3 pct) and fewest penalty yards (49.2 ypg).
  • Duquesne has three of the top 10 scorers in the NEC in A.J. Hines (T-1st - 8.2 ppg), Nehari Crawford (5th - 6.8 ppg) and Mitch MacZura (7th - 5.9 ppg).
  • Duquesne is not slated to leave the state of Pennsylvania again until this week's Nov. 3 matchup at Wagner in Staten Island, N.Y. After taking on Bryant and Robert Morris at home to open NEC action, the Dukes made the short trip to
  • Loretto, Pa. to battle Saint Francis U in their last contest. DU followed the matchup with the Red Flash with a bye week.
  • The Dukes have six games at Rooney Field in 2018 (three non-conference matchups, three NEC contests) in addition to the game at Saint Francis U. This comes a year after DU played seven road games in seven different states in 2017.
  • Duquesne returns 12 starters from last year's team which posted a 7-4 overall mark and a 4-2 ledger in Northeast Conference play.
  • The Dukes have registered at least seven total victories in three straight seasons and five of the last seven years.
  • In a total of 20 night games (6 p.m. kick off or later) at Arthur J. Rooney Field, Duquesne now owns a 16-4 record, including a 3-1 mark against RMU.
  • In the Dukes' game against Bryant, Duquesne sported new helmet decals, wearing red jersey numbers on the left side with a transparent "D" logo with blue outline on the right side. The back of the helmet featured a blue Pittsburgh city skyline silhouette.
  • Duquesne returned to that helmet design against Saint Francis U after wearing Pittsburgh Steeler logo decals in last week's win over Robert Morris, as the Steelers offered their prayers and support to the family, friends and teammates of Marquis "Jaylen" Brown. The helmet paid tribute to "JB."

THE SERIES

  • This is the 14th meeting between Duquesne and Wagner, with the Dukes owning an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Duquesne has won three straight over the Seahawks, including a 38-0 triumph last season at Rooney Field. The Dukes earned a 28-20 win in their last trip to Grymes Hill in 2016.
  • The Seahawks have won two of the last three meetings on Staten Island with a 23-13 victory over Duquesne in 2014 and a 23-17 win in 2012.
  • 14th-year head coach Jerry Schmitt is 7-3 all-time against the Seahawks while fourth-year Wagner head coach Jason Houghtalling is 0-3 vs. the Dukes.
