SOMERSET, N.J. - Duquesne junior running back
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) was named the Northeast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Dukes' 48-24 win over Robert Morris, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.
Hines matched his career high with three rushing touchdowns against the Colonials, tallying a season-high 182 rushing yards on 27 carries.
He shares the honor with Central Connecticut State running back Drew Jean-Guillaume. Wagner linebacker Cam Gill was named Defensive Player of the Week, Saint Francis U punt returner Nick Rinella Special Teams Player of the Week and Wagner linebacker/wide receiver Titus Leo Rookie of the Week.
Hines added a pair of receptions for 36 yards, recording a total of 218 yards from scrimmage for Duquesne. The Wilson, N.C. native rushed for 10 of the Dukes' 29 first downs in the victory.
As a team, Duquesne posted 321 rushing yards in the contest, their first 300-yard performance since tallying 373 yards in a 47-7 triumph over Kentucky Christian on Sept. 15, 2015. Hines and teammate
Daquan Worley (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville/Penn State) combined to rush for 278 rushing yards and five touchdowns, the Dukes' first game with five rushing touchdowns since a 45-42 win at Sacred Heart on Nov. 14, 2009.
He registered three rushing touchdowns for the fourth time in his career and eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the 15th time in his career. Hines leads the NEC with nine touchdowns on the season. He is tied for third in program history with 32 rushing touchdowns while ranking fifth with 2,918 career rushing yards.
In three career games against Robert Morris, Hines has totaled 494 rushing yards on 73 carries, averaging 164.7 yards per game and 6.8 yards per carry, helping Duquesne to three triumphs over the Colonials.
