MEET NOTES
  • Duquesne opens the dual portion of the 2018-19 campaign with a road contest at Youngstown State at Beeghly Natatorium on Saturday at 11 a.m.
  • The Dukes and Penguins have met each season since 2013-14. Duquesne has claimed victories in all five of those meetings.
  • The Dukes defeated the Penguins 168-125 in DU's lone home meet last season at Towers Pool. With the win, the Dukes improved to 7-0 on the season. 
  • Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) won a team-high two events for Duquesne with triumphs in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.72) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.26).
  • All told, Duquesne bested YSU in nine events at the meet. 
  • The Dukes were selected to repeat as Atlantic 10 Champions in the preseason coaches poll released in late September. Duquesne won its first A-10 title in program history last season, dethroning the seven-time reigning champion Richmond.
  • Freshman Emma Brinton returns for her sophomore campaign after being named the A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer last season.
  • Duquesne is led by 17th-year head coach David Sheets, who was named the 2018 A-10 Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.
  • The Dukes feature seven seniors on the 2018-19 roster: Kirsten Hillsley, Sydnee Karam, Kristen McKnight, Morgan Smith, Abigail Stauffer, Emily Thirion and Gabrielle Werner.  
  • Charlie Hauser leads the Duquesne divers in his second year after the diving program was reinstated prior to the 2017-18 season. The Dukes have six divers on the roster in 2018-19.
  • Duquesne posted a 9-1 mark in dual meet action last year.
  • Five Dukes took part in the CSCAA Open Water Championship on Sept. 22 on Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kan. Junior Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River led DU with a 36th-place finish.

NEXT UP
  • Duquesne travels to James Madison for a dual meet on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.
  • JMU is coming off a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship last season. It was the Dukes' eighth title and first conference crown since 2012.
  • The matchup with James Madison is the first of three duals in three days as DU will participate in the Richmond Duals on Oct. 19-20.
