PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's cross country team opened the 2017 campaign on Saturday morning, compiling a record of 5-1 at the Duquesne Duals at Schenley Park.
The Dukes bested Carnegie Mellon (15-49), Cleveland State (15-49), Indiana (Pa.) (15-50), Robert Morris (15-50) as well as Youngstown State (15-50). Duquesne's lone defeat came to Pittsburgh by a score of 24-32.
Junior Elizabeth Morris (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) paced the Dukes in third place at the event, touring the 5k course in 18:25.8.
Seniors Jenny DelSignore (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Angela Mignanelli (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) finished in fifth (18:29.6) and seventh (18:40.4) place, respectively.
Junior Taylor Pletz (North East, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) placed eighth(18:54.5) followed by sophomore Maria Carberry (Dickerson, Md./Urbana) in ninth (18:59.3) overall. Duquesne had a meet-high six runners finish in the top 10, as junior Jennifer Gerland (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) placed 10th (19:01.2).
The Dukes return to action at the National Catholic meet hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET in South Bend, Ind.
