Senior Sendoff

PITTSBURGH - Julijana Vojinovic scored a game-high 17 points and Amadea Szamosi recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Duquesne to a 70-51 victory over VCU Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.

Chassidy Omogrosso added 13 points for the Dukes (14-12, 7-6 A-10).

VCU (13-13, 6-7 A-10) was held to 36.7 percent shooting for the game, with no players scoring in double-figures.

FIRST QUARTER
The game opened with back-to-back 3-pointers from Omogrosso and Conor Richardson, propelling the Dukes to a 16-2 advantage. After Sandra Skinner's layup for VCU at the 4:27 mark, Duquesne would go on to post an 11-0 run, extending its lead to 29-6. The Dukes shot 61.1 percent from the field, connecting on 11-of-18 attempts.

SECOND QUARTER
The Dukes found their largest lead of the game off an Angela Staffileno jumper--up 24--with 5:02 remaining. An Isis Thorpe 3-pointer with 2:34 to go would close the scoring for the quarter, with Duquesne up 41-24 heading into halftime. Vojinovic led Duquesne, recording 13 points and four rebounds through the first two quarters.

THIRD QUARTER
A pair of layups from VCU's Katherine Strong brought the Rams within 16 points at 50-34 with 3:31 remaining in the quarter, however a 7-0 run would extend Duquesne's lead to 57-34, capped by a Staffileno layup with 12 seconds left.

FOURTH QUARTER

Duquesne would gain another 24-point lead--up 69-45--with 1:51 to go off a pair of Judith Sole free throws. Danielle Hammond's layup with 18 seconds remaining capped the scoring for both teams.

Duquesne embarks on its longest road trip of the season, beginning Wednesday night at Dayton and carrying on at Rhode Island Saturday afternoon.
