MEET NOTES
The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Classic at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Duquesne is coming off a strong showing at the Richmond Duals to open the season last weekend, topping Davidson 187.50-104.50 before defeating the host Spiders 154-145.
Freshman Emma Brinton (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week following her collegiate debut last weekend at the Richmond Duals. She paced the field in both the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.94 and the 400-yard IM with a mark of 4:30.05 against Richmond, the seven-time defending A-10 champion. She also bested her Davidson counterparts in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.16.
The DU 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of senior Michelle Heim (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale), juniors Kristen McKnight (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and Emily Thirion (Warren, Ohio/Warren) as well as sophomore Carson Gross (York, Pa./York Suburban), sealed the win over Richmond with a mark of 1:36.31 in the event. It was one of eight event victories for the Dukes over the Spiders on the day.
The Dukes competed in diving for the first time since the 2000-01 season last weekend at Richmond. Freshman Colleen Rodrigues (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) defeated all Davidson competition in the 1-meter dive on Friday with a score of 219.35 points.
The A-10 Swimming and Diving Classic will feature a five-way dual meet format with George Mason, La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis also competing.
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will also be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 15-18, 2018. DU was picked to finish second at the 2017-18 A-10 Championships after two consecutive second-place showings.
UP NEXT
The DU diving team will travel to Youngstown State on Friday, Nov. 3 to take on the Penguins beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
The Dukes swimmers will then open the 2017-18 home slate against YSU on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Towers Pool at 1 p.m. ET.
