Brinton Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Duquesne freshman swimmer Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) earned Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors for her performance at the Richmond Duals over the weekend, league officials announced on Tuesday.

Brinton helped Duquesne earn a 2-0 record at the Richmond Duals, topping Davidson 187.50-104.50 on Friday before defeating the host Spiders by a score of 154-145.

On Saturday against Richmond, winner of the last seven A-10 titles, Brinton paced the field in both the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.94 and the 400-yard IM with a mark of 4:30.05.

She added a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.97) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:52.43) on the day.

In her collegiate debut on Friday against the Wildcats, Brinton bested her Davidson opponents in the 200-yard freestyle with a finish of 1:54.16. In addition, she was part of a first-place 200-yard medley relay team which posted a time of 1:46.34.

She becomes the first Dukes swimmer to garner A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades since Abigail Stauffer (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) in 2015.

Brinton and the Dukes are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 28 at the A-10 Quad Meet in Geneva, Ohio.
