PITTSBURGH - Former Duquesne great, and key contributor to the expansion of the game of basketball, Cumberland Posey, Jr., will be formally enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday night.
Posey, recognized as the first African-American athlete in Duquesne University history, played at DU from 1916-18. He is the first Duke to achieve basketball's highest honor.
The Pittsburgh native, who led the Dukes in scoring for three seasons under the alias Charles Cumbert, was considered - along with Harvard grad Edwin Henderson, a 2013 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee - to have been instrumental in introducing basketball to the African-American community in the early 1900s.
NBA-TV coverage of the enshrinement ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.
