July 1, 2016 Colter Career Recap
PITTSBURGH - Derrick Colter, who along with Norm Nixon is the only player in Duquesne history to finish a career with over 1,500 points and 500 assists, has signed a contract to play professionally for Rouen Metropole Basket of the Ligue Natiuonale de Basket Pro B League.
The LNB Pro B is the second-highest league in France.
Colter is the third Duke coached by Jim Ferry to sign an overseas contract - joining backcourtmate Micah Mason, who signed to play in Belgium two weeks ago, and Ovie Soko (2014) who is under contract to Enel Brindisi in Italy.
"I'm blessed to have the chance to do what I love on the professional level," said Colter. "I'm looking forward to competing again. I can't wait to get started."
"There is no doubt in my mind that D.C. will be successful as a pro," said Ferry. "He has worked so hard to get to where he is today. He has met every challenge he has ever faced - be it on the court or off - and come back stronger. He is as mentally tough as any player I've coached."
Colter started every game in his Duquesne career - 125 in a row - on his way to finishing seventh in school history in scoring (1,695 points) and third in assists (526). The Forestville, Md. native scored in double-digits 92 times, including 32 of 34 games as a senior when he averaged 17.9 points per game. Colter, one of only one of three players in school history to post 100 or more assists in four-straight years, led the Dukes in scoring and assists as a freshman and junior. He, along with Nixon (twice) and B.B. Flenory (three times), are the only players to lead the Dukes in scoring and assists in multiple seasons.
