March 8, 2016 2015-16 All-Atlantic 10 Honors
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne senior guard Micah Mason (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) was named third team All-Atlantic 10 in a vote of the league's head coaches released today.
Mason, DU's leading scorer at 18.1 ppg, ranked fourth in the A-10 in conference-only scoring at 19.6 ppg. The Natrona Heights, Pa. native, who is averaging 4.6 assists per game, has scored 20 or more a team-high 13 times - including nine times in Atlantic 10 games.
Mason, who leads the conference in 3-pointers made per game at 3.5 (all games), is on pace to become the conference's all-time most accurate 3-point shooter. The third-year Drake transfer, who is shooting .458 from the arc as a Duke (257-561), could miss his next 17 three-point attempts and still break the current A-10 record of .445 set by Saint Joseph's Pat Carroll from 2002-05 (294-661).
Mason's .464 career percentage (297-640), which includes his freshman season at Drake, currently ranks as the fifth-best mark in NCAA history. Mason's 104 3-pointers this season have already broken the previous school record of 99 set by Tom Pipkins in 1996-97.
Mason is the second Duke to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors under fourth-year head coach Jim Ferry, joining Ovie Soko, who earned third team honors in 2014.
Eleventh-seed Duquesne (16-15) faces 14th-seeded La Salle (8-21) in the first round of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game will be televised by ASN.
