Colter named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Feb. 1, 2016

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne's Derrick Colter (Forestville, Md./Largo) has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for his performance in the Dukes' Coaches vs. Cancer week wins over La Salle and Saint Louis last week.

Colter, a second-year cancer survivor, averaged 25.0 points in the two games.

The 5-11 guard - fewer than 72 hours removed from the 30-hour bus ride Duquesne endured on its trip back from Fairfax, Va. last weekend - scored a career high-tying 27 points in DU's 87-60 win over La Salle on Tuesday. He followed that with 23 more points in the Dukes' 78-67 win at Saint Louis on Saturday.

Colter, who scored 20 points in the second half against both the Explorers and Billikens, shot 44.1 percent from the field, including 7-of-17 from 3-point and averaged 3.5 assists in 38 minutes per game for the week.

He is the first Duke to be named Player of the Week since teammate Micah Mason earned the honor on March 3, 2014.

Colter, a three-time Rookie of the Week in 2013, is currently tied for 12th on DU's all-time scoring list with 1,485 points. He also ranks second on Duquesne all-time career starts list with 113. Colter has started every game in his career.

Duquesne (15-7, 5-4), winner of five of its past six, is idle until it hosts Davidson on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 12:30 p.m. on NBCSN.
