NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- Kadri-Ann Lass scored 17 points and
Chassidy Omogrosso and
Nina Aho combined for 30 points as the Duquesne women's basketball team won its third straight game after a 61-58 victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon.
Amadea Szamosi pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Dukes (3-1).
Alexis Lewis and Marina Lizarazu each scored 16 for Iona (2-1).
1ST QUARTER
Iona came out of the gates fast, building an early 11-2 lead. The Dukes would come back with a 7-0 run over the next 1:59 to make the score 11-9 at 4:20 heading into the media timeout. However the Dukes would miss their next six shots and trail 18-9 at the end of the quarter.
2ND QUARTER
The Dukes defense clamped down and only allowed one Gaels field goal in the first eight minutes to cut the deficit to a basket at 22-20. Back-to-back field goals from Aho and Omogrosso tied the score at 24-24 heading into halftime. By the 6:11 mark of the quarter, Szamosi had grabbed her 10th rebound of the game.
3rd QUARTER
The Dukes took their first lead of the game on a Lass foul shot at the 5:24 mark that made the score 31-30. They would hold the lead the rest of the quarter, taking a 2-point advantage into the final quarter at 41-39.
4TH QUARTER
An 8-0 run leading up to the media timeout increased the Duquesne lead to 51-43. A Lass 3-pointer at 4:53 gave the Dukes their largest lead of the game at nine points - 54-45. Iona would score 10 of the next 12 points to make it a 1-point game with 2:07 remaining. On the next possession, Lass drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key, putting the Dukes ahead 59-55 with 1:35 to go. Lizarazu's 3-pointer at 1:12 made it a 1-point game again. On Duquesne's next possession, Lass hit a jumper from 15 feet with 32 seconds remaining to close out the scoring. The Gaels had a chance to tie the contest, but their 3-point attempts with nine and three seconds remaining did not fall.
GAME NOTES
- Aho's previous career-high was 12 points at St. John's on Thursday
- This is Szamosi's third career 15-rebound game
- Omogrosso has scored in double figures four straight games
- Duquesne has won eight straight against MAAC teams, and improves to 16-3 all-time
- This was the first-ever meeting between Duquesne and Iona

The Dukes return home to host Buffalo (3-0) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. In the last meeting the Dukes defeated the Bulls 79-62 in Buffalo.
