TEAM RECORD: 7-1
QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne swimming team defeated Toledo 159-100 Friday afternoon at Towers Pool.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Abby Watson, Abigail Stauffer, Kayla Owens and Heather Svitavsky opened the meet with a first place finish with a time of 3:54.86. The team comprised of Morgan Fink, Erin Kuhn, Lexi Santer and Morgan Smith took second in 3:57.73, ahead of Toldeo.
Next, in the 1000-yard freestyle, Summer Svitavsky (10:40.43), Carson Gross (10:44.80) and Lauren Devorace (10:49.63) had top three finishes for the Dukes.
Stauffer's 100-yard breaststroke finish of 1:05.87 gave Duquesne a first place finish with Kuhn (1:07.52) following in second and Owens (1:07.64) taking third.
The Dukes had another first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with Smith's time of 2:07.27. In the next event, McKnight (24.78), Thirion (24.82) and Michelle Heim (25:06) finished top three in the 50-yard freestyle.
Stauffer took another top finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.44. Kuhn (2:26.90) and Kirsten Hillsley (2:27.49) followed in second and third place.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Stauffer (2:08.63), Santer (2:10.30) and Owens (2:11.48) finished top three for Duquesne.
The Dukes closed out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of McKnight, Thirion, Heim and Smith taking first.
COACH SHEETS QUOTE: "One thing we really preached today was that it's not about the times that show up on the board, but how we race the races that we swim. I think that the team did a really nice job on really focusing on their races, especially the freshmen, and I'm really pleased with their performance today."
