@DuqSwim Announces Breast Cancer Fundraising Effort

Oct. 5, 2016

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne women's swimming head coach Dave Sheets has announced that the team will be raising money for breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October.

The culmination of the fundraising efforts will be the Dukes' opening meet against Oakland University on Friday, October 14th at Towers Pool. During October, Duquesne will be wearing pink caps.

In the weeks leading up to and following the dual meet, the team will be asking for donations via a Swim-A-Thon as well as ribbon signing at upcoming home swim meets and other athletic events. The Swim-a-thon will take place during a practice in October. The entire team, including the coaching staff, will be swimming for this great cause. An average, practice is about 6,000 yards (240 laps). You can donate by the lap, by the yard, designate your amount based on that or make a flat donation.

Over the past six years, the Duquesne swimming family has raised over $15,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year, we hope to raise even more than last year to help such a great cause. After the completion of the Swim-a-thon and collection of the donations, we will submit our total efforts to The American Cancer Society of Pittsburgh. Every bit can help our effort even if you are unable to make the meet, a donation would be much appreciated.
