QUICK NOTES

• Duquesne (10-5, 0-2) hits the road for the second time this week to face George Washington on Sat., Jan. 9 in Washington, D.C. The game, set for an 8:05 p.m. start, will be televised by ASN (WPNT-TV locally). This will be the first of two meetings between the Dukes and Colonials.

• For the second consecutive game, the Dukes will be facing one of the three Atlantic 10 teams who has yet to lose at home. DU dropped a 77-66 decision at Davidson (8-0 at home) on Wednesday. GW is 9-0 at Smith Center this season. Duquesne is the only A-10 school that will face the top five teams in the league's preseason poll at least once on the road.

• Duquesne is 1-2 on the road , with a win at Saint Francis U (67-65) at Johnstown, Pa. on Dec. 12 and a losses at Georgia Tech (67-73) on Dec. 29 & at Davidson (66-77) on Wednesday.

• The Dukes are looking for their first win since losing senior forward Jeremiah Jones to a season-ending knee injury vs. Robert Morris on Dec. 19. Jones had played in every game of his DU career (103) with 95 starts. The Dukes were without second-leading scorer Micah Mason (ankle) for the Dayton game. Mason made his return at Davidson.

• This is the 76th meeting in a series that dates to Jan. 21, 1932 ... GW leads the series 47-28 (40-23 lead in Atlantic 10 regular season) ... in games played at D.C., the Colonials lead 26-7 ... the two met three times last season, with GW winning by 15 at home (74-59) and DU winning by 16 in Pittsburgh (78-62) ... the Colonials took the rubber match by a 73-55 score in the second round of the A-10 Championship at Barclays Center ... this is the first of two meetings this season.

• Duquesne saw a four-game series win streak snapped in its 2012 trip to George Washington (a 56-51 loss) ... the four-game streak was the Dukes' longest in the series since 1989-90 ... GW won 26 of 31 games prior to DU's four-game streak ... the Colonials won the next four, including a 74-59 victory at Smith Center on Jan. 24, before the Dukes broke the streak with a 78-62 win at Palumbo Center on Feb. 11 of last season.

• DU scored 51, 57, 57 & 59 points in its first four games against Mike Longeran-coached GW teams, before scoring 78 in the second meeting last season ... DU coach Jim Ferry is 1-4 against GW.

• GW, like DU's previous opponent, Davidson, enters the game undefeated at home (9-0) ... the Colonials are 35-3 at Smith Center since 2013 ... GW has three seniors, Patricio Garino (94), Kevin Larsen (110) and Joe McDonald (112), who have combined for more than 300 starts ... Garino, Larsen and grad-transfer Alex Mitola have all surpassed 1,000 points, while D-III transfer Matt Hart (964) and McDonald (961) closing in on the mark ... junior Wake Forest transfer 6-9 Tyler Cavanaugh leads GW at 15.7 ppg.


LEFTOVERS FROM DAVIDSON
Leftovers from Duquesne's 77-66 loss at Davidson on Wednesday: DU, which trailed 38-36 at the half, missed 18 of its first 21 shots of the second in falling behind by double digits ... the Dukes committed half of their 14 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Davidson built its lead to 13 points ... the Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead from the 10:58 mark on ... L.G. Gill, who scored 12 in the first half, led the Dukes with 18 points ... Derrick Colter added 17 and Eric James posted his second double-double in three games with 11 points and 12 rebounds ... DU's second-leading scorer, Micah Mason, who missed the Atlantic 10 opener vs. Dayton with an ankle injury, made his return with 4 points, 5 assists and 3 steals in 31 minutes ... Mason, who had not practiced since injuring the ankle at Georgia Tech on Dec. 29, went 2-of-9 from the field, including 0-of-6 from the 3-point arc ... it was just the fourth time in 70 games at DU that Mason did not hit a "3" (ending a streak of 32 consecutive games with a 3-pointer) ... the Dukes, who went 4-of-24 from 3-point, shot .397 overall ... DU limited Davidson to .424 shooting ... the Dukes finished with a Jim Ferry Era low-tying seven assists ... Duquesne's largest lead was five (11-6) with 15:44 left in the first half ... Davidson's largest lead was 17 (70-53) with 4:02 left.

• Duquesne is the only A-10 team that will be facing the top five teams in the league's preseason poll at least once on the road.

• Duquesne is 0-3 and averaging 63.7 points & 9.7 assists/g without injured forward Jeremiah Jones. In 12 games with Jones, DU was 10-2 and averaged 77.3 ppg. and 17.3 apg. On the flipside, the Dukes have held their past three opponents to combined .399 shooting.

• Sophomore Eric James has posted double-doubles in two of his three starts as Jones' replacement. In three games as a starter, James is averaging 9.7 points and 11.7 rebounds.

Micah Mason (1,036 points), who saw a streak of 65 straight starts snapped vs. Dayton (ankle), made his return at Davidson. Mason, who did not practice since injuring the ankle at Georgia Tech on Dec. 29, finshed with 4 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. It was just the fourth time in 70 games at DU that he did not hit a 3-pointer (0-6). He had hit a "3" in 32 straight games.

• DU has assisted on 15 of its past 42 field goals over the last two games (7.5 apg. over that span).

• The Dukes have outrebounded 10 of 14 opponents and are 9-1 in those games.
