Duquesne's swimming team wrapped up the first half of its season with a 154-116 victory at Saint Francis. The Dukes, who captured first place in 14 of the 15 races, improved to 6-3 in dual meets.
"This is a good way to wrap up the first semester of competition," said head coach David Sheets. "I was pleased with how the ladies got up and raced throughout the entire meet. Now we will focus on finals and finishing out the semester with a strong week and a half of training."
The Red and Blue opened the meet with a second place showing n the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.74, but then went on to win the next 14 races. Kayla Owens led the way with three wins, followed by Samantha Ray and Abigail Stauffer with two wins each. Gabrielle Sibilia, Abby Watson, Lexi Santer, Morgan Fink and Morgan Smith also had individual wins while the Dukes also took the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.
Owens' wins came in the 400 IM (4:33.75), the 100 butterfly (58.52) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.29). Ray won the 50 free (24.25) and the 100 free (52.29) while Stauffer won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.01) and the 200 IM.
The Dukes will return to action on Dec. 27 as they head to Pompano Beach for 10 days of training in Florida. During their time in the Sunshine State, the Red and Blue will compete in the FIU Sprint Invite on January 3rd in Miami, FL.
