Christian Kuntz Named AP All-America

Dec. 16, 2015

A day after being named a STATS FCS First Team All-American, Duquesne University junior linebacker Christian Kuntz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) has been named second team All-America by the Associated Press.

Kuntz, the only player from the NEC to earn 2015 All-America honors, joins nine-year NFL veteran Leigh Bodden (AP All-America defensive back in 2002 & 2003) and Serge Kona (AP All-America defensive back in 2011) as the only DU underclassmen to earn the honor. Kuntz is the seventh player in school history, and first since Kona in 2011, to be named AP All-America.

The 6-1, 220-pound Kuntz, a College Sports Madness Third team All-American, NEC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference choice, leads the nation in tackles for a loss with 26 for a total of 114 yards. A two-time NEC Defensive Player of the week and the STATS FCS Defensive National Player of the Week on Nov. 23, he also led the Dukes with four interceptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns, 11 sacks for a loss of 70 yards, six pass break-ups and six quarterback hurries. He finished the season third on the team with 72 total tackles (47 solo).

The Red and Blue, who won its third Northeast Conference title in five years under 11th-year head coach Jerry Schmitt, finished the season 8-4 (5-1 NEC) and played in their first ever FCS Playoff.
