QUICK NOTES

• Duquesne, off to its best start since 1979-80 at 8-2, returns home to face South Carolina State (5-5) on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Dukes are coming off a 67-65 win at Saint Francis U in Johnstown, Pa. on Saturday. SC State defeated Jacksonville, 81-74, at home on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 3-2 in their past five games, including a 68-66 loss at Kansas State on Nov. 29. SCSU is 1-4 on the road, with a six-point loss at Longwood and 10-point defeat at Eastern Kentucky.

• The Dukes, who are 5-0 at home, are 44-12 in non-conference games at Palumbo Center since 2007-08. DU is looking to open 6-0 at home for the first time since 1999-00 (6-0).

Micah Mason, whose 16-footer with :02 left proved to be the winner in Saturday's game at Saint Francis, enters the South Carolina State game needing 15 points to reach 1,000 for his career. Mason, who scored 162 as a freshman at Drake, has added 823 in his three seasons at DU.

• Duquesne, which has scored 90 or more four times, is coming off a season low 67 points at SFU. DU's 83.8 ppg. early-season scoring average is the school's best since 1970-71.

NEXT UP: Duquesne hosts Robert Morris on Sat., Dec. 19 at 2:00 at Palumbo Center. The game will be followed by the Duquesne women vs. St. John's at 4:30 p.m.

First Meeting

• The Bulldogs, who hail from Orangeburg, S.C. are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. This is the first meeting between the Dukes and Bulldogs

• SC State, which finished 10-21 last season (4-14 on the road), posted wins over Houston and UMES in 2015 ... the Bulldogs are 1-4 on the road including a 10-point loss at Eastern Kentucky (92-82) and two-point loss at Kansas State (68-66).

• First-year JC transfer Eric Eaves (Dodge City CC) leads the team at 16.4 ppg. ... sophomore Edward Stephens is averaging 13.8 ppg., including 27-of-64 (.422) from 3-point ... 6-8 senior forward Darryl Palmer ranked 44th nationally with 2.1 blocks per game in 2015 ... SC State is coming off an 81-74 home win over Jacksonville on Saturday ... the Bulldogs had six double digit scorers and outrebounded the Dolphins 47-33 ... SCSU is in its third full season under head coach Murray Garvin.

• Duquesne is 12-3 all-time against the schools that comprise the current Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Head coach Jim Ferry is 1-1 against the MEAC at Duquesne with an 81-63 win over Howard on Dec. 2, 2014 and 78-69 loss to Maryand-Eastern Shore on Dec. 28, 2014.


LEFTOVERS FROM SAINT FRANCIS: Leftovers from Duquesne's 67-65 win over Saint Francis U at Johnstown on Saturday: Micah Mason, who finished with a game-high 20 points, hit a 16-footer from the right wing with :02 left to give the Dukes the win in the first series match-up in Johnstown since 1971 ... Derrick Colter added 13 for the Dukes who outrebounded the Red Flash 43-31 ... DU turned its 12 offensive boards into 10 second-chance points in outscoring SFU 40-22 in the paint ... TySean Powell came off the bench to grab a career-high 10 boards in 21 minutes ... Mason and Colter finished with six rebounds and four assists each ... SFU went 8-of-19 from the foul line, while DU finished 5-of-9 ... Duquesne never trailed from the 8:21 mark of the first half until the game's final minute ... DU finished 6-of-21 from 3-point, while SFU made nine of its 19 attempts from beyond the arc ... DU's 67 points were a season low ... the Dukes, led by a season-high four blocks from Darius Lewis, finished the game with a season-high 10 rejections.
