The Dukes cut a 19-point second half deficit to seven with 2:37 left, but could get no closer as the Waves held on to win. The Dukes, who were coming off a school-record 17 3-pointers in a 78-52 win over Penn State on Friday (17-of-34), went 6-of-27 from the arc - including 0-of-13 in the first half. DU committed 26 fouls leading to 38 Pepperdine free throws. The Waves went 24-of-38 from the line. Duquesne finished 12-of-18 from the stripe. L.G. Gill led DU with 17 points and a career high-tying 9 rebounds. Derrick Colter scored 16 points and Jeremiah Jones' 15 points were one shy of his career high.

• Milwaukee (4-2) suffered a 66-63 loss to Murray State in its opening round game. A potential game-tying 3-pointer by Jordan Johnson came just after the final horn in the loss. Johnson led the Panthers with 13 points and 9 assists. J.J. Panoske had 12 points and 7 boards and J.R. Lyle scored 11. The Panthers, who led 31-24 at the half, were outscored 42-32 over the final 20 minutes.

• Duquesne will face either Western Kentucky or Central Michigan on Wednesday. A win will put the Dukes in the 2:30 p.m. fifth-place game. A loss will place DU in the Noon seventh-place contest.
