Duquesne's swimming team wrapped up the three-day Magnus Cup Invitational at Cleveland State with a second place finish of 10 teams. The Dukes trailed only Akron and defeated fellow Atlantic 10 foe George Washington as well as the host Vikings.

After Taylor Kane opened the meet with a fifth place finish in the 1,650 yard freestyle in 17:20.22, the Red and Blue cracked the top three in the 100 IM as sophomore Kayla Owens placed second in 57.45 and freshman Abigail Stauffer came in third in 58.41.

Sophomore Lexi Santer then turned in a second place showing in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.59 followed by senior Samantha Ray's second place finish in the 100 free in 50.69.

In the next race, Duquesne swimmers placed first, second and third in the 200 breaststroke as Stauffer touched first in an NCAA "B" standard time of 2:15.63, Owens next in 2:16.42 and junior Laura Murphy in third in 2:19.27.

The meet ended with Ray, Owens, Santer and sophomore Gabrielle Sibilia combining to finish second in the 400 free relay with a school record time of 3:22.46. Ray also broke her own school record in the opening 100 yards with a time of 50.28.

"This meet was a good opportunity for the team to swim a three day format," said head coach David Sheets. "It helped the team understand the physical and mental stresses that come along with a meet like this. All in all, we are very pleased with where we are right now but understand we still have work to do moving forward with the rest of the season."

The Dukes wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Saturday, Dec. 5 as they travel to Saint Francis for a 1:00 pm meet.
