THE SERIES

• This is the 27th meeting in a series that dates to Jan. 12, 1937 ... DU led the series 8-0 when Richmond joined the Atlantic 10 in 2001-02 ... the Spiders promptly reeled off 14 consecutive wins before DU ended the streak with an 81-72 win at Palumbo Center in 2012 ... UR defeated the Dukes, 75-58 last year in Pittsburgh to give the Spiders a 16-1 record against Duquesne in A-10 games ... UR ended DU's season last year with a 76-64 win in the first round of the A-10 Championship at Barclays Center. • Duquesne has topped the 70-point mark once in 10 meetings (1-9) against Chris Mooney-coached Richmond teams ... that was in DU's lone win - an 81-72 decision at the Palumbo Center on Feb. 4, 2012 ... in fact, DU has scored 70 or more just two times against Richmond since the Spiders joined the A-10 in 2001-02, the other was in a 72-71 loss at Richmond on Feb. 1, 2005 ... that game was decided when Richmond's Daon Merritt answered a Martin Osimani 3-pointer by racing the length of the court in the final six seconds to hit an acrobatic layup with eight-tenths of a second remaining.

ON THE SPIDERS
• Richmond is 9-2 at home with conference wins over George Mason, St. Bonaventure and Davidson ... 5-8 senior guard Kendall Anthony, who scored 20 & 23 in two games vs. Duquesne last year, leads UR with a 15.9 ppg. scoring average ... 6-8 junior forward Terry Allen, who had 27 in Richmond's A-10 Championship win over the Dukes, is averaging 11.8 ppg. ... UR ranks seventh nationally in fewest turnovers/g. (9.8).

2014-15 QUICK HITS

• Duquesne's roster consists of one senior, six juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen. The Dukes have four first-year scholarship players.

• Duquesne was picked to finish 11th in the 14-team Atlantic 10 in the annual poll of league coaches and media. National media outlets pegged the Dukes to finish anywhere from 7th (Basketball Times & College Basketball Madness) to 12th (Athlon).

• The Dukes return four starters - junior guards Derrick Colter & Micah Mason, junior forward Jeremiah Jones and senior forward Dominique McKoy - from last year's 13-17 team (5-11 in the Atlantic 10, tied for 10th place).

• DU's top three scorers are guards: Derrick Colter (12.7 ppg.), Micah Mason (10.8 ppg.) and Jordan Stevens (9.5 ppg.). A guard has either led, or tied for the team lead in scoring, in 16 of 18 games. The lone non-guards to lead the Dukes in scoring outright are L.G. Gill who led DU with 17 points in a win over Howard on Dec. 2 and Jeremiah Jones who had 10 at Dayton on Jan. 3. Freshman TySean Powell tied Stevens for game scoring honors with 15 vs. Pitt on Dec. 5 and fellow freshman Eric James matched Colter's team-high 17 points at Robert Morris on Dec. 13.

• Colter, who ranked in the top 3 nationally in 3-point shooting percentage (43-of-85, .506) for over a month prior to dropping out of the NCAA rankings last week (he is two makes shy of meeting the NCAA minimum of 2.5 made per game), became the eighth player in school history to hit seven or more 3-pointers in a game when he went 7-of-8 from the arc in scoring a career-high 26 points in the opener vs. Bluefield State. Colter's seven makes were one shy of the school record shared by three players (last by Aaron Jackson who went 8-of-13 in scoring 46 points in a double-overtime NIT 116-108 loss at Virginia Tech on Mar. 18, 2009).

Micah Mason, who led the nation in 3-point shooting percentage in 2014 (65-116, .560), hit a career-high six 3-pointers in seven attempts vs. NJIT on Nov. 29. He broke out of a four-game, 6-of-26 3-point slump by hitting all five of his 3-point attempts (17 pts.) in the Dec. 20 win over UMass Lowell. He has hit five or more "3s" in a game seven times (five at Duquesne and two as a freshman at Drake). For the season, Mason is shooting .439 from the arc (47-of-107).

• Six-six freshman TySean Powell, who is shooting .617, ranks tied for third on the team in double-digit scoring games (7) and first in dunks (18) and conventional three-point plays (8 in 8 attempts). Powell, who has come off the bench in his past eight games, is tied with Derrick Colter for the team lead in free throw attempts (38-of-57).

• DU's lone senior, forward Dominique McKoy, made his first start of 2015 vs. UMass Lowell on Dec. 20. McKoy is averaging 8.4 ppg. and 6.2 rpg. and shooting .559 as a starter. McKoy is shooting better from the field (206-375, .549) than the foul line (77-148, .520) for his career.

• First-year JC transfer Jordan Stevens, who leads the Dukes with 162 field goal attempts, went 6-of-9 from 3-point in scoring 27 points in 28 minutes off the bench in his debut at Abilene Christian. The Columbia, Mo. native, who was held out of the season opener (team suspension), added 16 off the bench vs. NJIT. He scored 15 points along with three assists and two steals vs. Pitt and scored a team-high 18 off the bench at Penn State. Stevens, who averaged 12.0 ppg. in non-conference play, averaged 4.6 ppg. in his first five A-10 games before breaking out with 13 off the bench vs. St. Bonaventure.

• Building quality depth has been a priority of head coach Jim Ferry since his arrival at Duquesne. So far this season, DU's bench has outscored the opponent bench 523-313 (an average of just under 12 ppg.). The DU bench, which posted a high of 67 points at Abilene Christian, has outscored its opponent in 13 of 18 games.

• DU's 11.0 turnovers/g. last season was the lowest mark in school history (previous was 11.5 in 1995). The Dukes, with four first-year players playing prominent roles, are averaging 12.7 turnovers per game this season.

• DU is facing an 18-game conference schedule, including nine home games, marking just the second time since 1972 that the Dukes will have 16 regular-season home games. Duquesne will host five of the six A-10 schools that made an NCAA tournament appearance last season, in addition to first-year Atlantic 10 member Davidson, which earned an NIT bid as the regular season champion of the Southern Conference in 2014.

• DU will play Davidson (2014 Southern Conference regular-season champion/NIT), Dayton (2014 NCAA Elite 8), George Washington (2014 NCAA Second Round), St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis (2014 NCAA Third Round) twice in Atlantic 10 play. Davidson, Dayton, George Washington and Saint Louis all won at least 20 games last year. Duquesne and George Mason are the only schools facing four teams that made post-season appearances in 2014 in their five-team home-and-home pod.
