QUICK RECAP:Senior midfielder Austin Lange posted Duquesne's first hat trick since 2003 and junior forward Kadeem Pantophlet tied the school record with three assists in leading the Dukes to a 4-2 win over Saint Francis U in DU's home opener. Lange wasted no time getting on the board, when he took a pass from Pantophlet and headed it by SFU keeper Andrew Garcia in the fifth minute. Lange scored again, taking another pass from Pantophlet in front of the net and driving it past Garcia. Saint Francis answered just under two minutes later when Andres Vega scored to make it 2-1. Lange found the back of the net for the third time on a penalty kick in the 55th minute after Fredrik Borenstein was taken down in the box. Borenstein got on the board himself in the 61st minute when he scored from point blank range to give Pantophlet his final assist of the match. SFU's Bryan Causey closed out the scoring with a header in the 64th minute. Lange, who finished with five shots on goal, was robbed by Garcia in the 28th minute. He also had a scoring chance in the 83rd minute, but his drive from the left side was stopped by SFU back-up keeper Marcus Rojas. Lange's hat trick was the first by a Duke since Damian Pottinger scored a school record four goals in a 5-0 win over Saint Joseph's on Oct. 17, 2003. It was just the third hat trick in school history (Fred Olson scored three times in an 8-1 win over Niagara on Sept. 24, 1995). Pantophlet became the fifth player to register three assists in a game, the last being Matt Mehler who did it in the same game Pottinger scored four. The Dukes outshot the Red Flash 19-11. SFU had one more corner kick than DU at 5-4. Sam Frymier had six saves for the Dukes. Duquesne now leads the overall series 6-4-4. DU head coach Chase Brooks is now 3-0-0 vs. Saint Francis (2-0-0 at Duquesne). Duquesne, which went without a goal in going 0-2-2 vs. Saint Francis in four meetings prior to Brooks' arrival, is 2-0 - with five goals scored - against the Red Flash under the second-year head coach.
FROM COACH BROOKS: "This was a tough one beacause our legs were tired after going 110 minutes at Marshall in a game where we absolutely battled. I think you saw our depth really kick in, which was an area we focused on in our recruiting. We battled again today against a tough Saint Francis team that knocks the ball around well. Guys kept moving and kept the energy level high and that really played into the fact of the 4-2 win. Austin was tremendous today in burying his chances - that's what we didn't do Friday night [at Marshall]. It was nice to see us get over that hump a bit."
