Duquesne's women's swimming team capped off the fall portion of its 2014-15 season by winning the 10-team Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State University.
The Dukes captured 1415.5 team points, which led second place finisher Akron which had 995.5 points.
During the three-day event, Duquesne broke five school records, two individual and three relay.
On Sunday, two individuals captured first place finishes with Kayla Owens winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a meet record time and NCAA "B" qualifying standard of 2:15.71 and Line Lovberg winning the 200 butterfly with a meet record time of 2:02.79.
Two Dukes also secured silver medals as Samantha Ray placed second in the 100 freestyle in 51.40, but also set a school record in preliminaries with a time of 50.85 which was also good enough to qualify her for the U.S. Winter National Championships. Also second was Abby Watson who finished second in the 200 backstroke in 2:02.54.
The Red and Blue closed out the event by placing second in the 400 free relay in 3:26.84.
The majority of the team will return to action on Dec. 27 as the Dukes travel to Pompano Beach, Florida during semester break to train for the second half of the season. However, an all-time best five individuals (Line Lovberg, Morgan Fink, Lillian Nelson, Kayla Owens and Samantha Ray) will compete at the U.S. Winter National Championships Dec. 4-6 in Greensboro, N.C., before joining the team in Florida.
