Duquesne's swimming team had a strong showing on day one of three at Cleveland State's Magnus Cup Invitational.
The Dukes opened the competition by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay with a school record time of 1:33.93.
In the second race, Kayla Owens finished third in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.41.
In the 500 free, Lexi Santer took fourth of 30 swimmers with a time of 5:03.05.
In the 200 individual medley, the Dukes took five of the top nine finishers led by Owens with a first place time of 2:03.15, Line Lovberg with a second place time of 2:03.24 and Santer with a fifth place showing of 2:06.12. Owens and Lovberg qualified for the U.S. Winter Nationals with their finishes.
In the final individual race, Samantha Ray took first of 30 in the 50 free with a time of 23.48. She was followed by Claire Nobles in 4th in 24.02 and Gabrielle Sibilia in fifth in 24.07.
The Dukes ended day one with a first place finish in the 400 medley relay with a school and meet record time of 3:46.15.
Duquesne ended day one in first place of nine schools with 499 team points.
Day two action will feature the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 backstroke and 800 free relay.
