PITTSBURGH - Duquesne volleyball coach Steve Opperman has announced that Bethany Hansen (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) will join the team for the upcoming 2013 season.

Hansen will be the fifth incoming freshman in the Class of 2013 joining Madelynn Burnham, Samantha Kline, Lacey Levers and Jennifer Vargo.

As a senior, Hansen was team co-captain and led Homestead High School in kills and aces and was second in digs. For her efforts, she was named team MVP and selected First-Team All-Conference. Additionally, she was named All-State and All-Area Honorable Mention. She was Second-Team All-Conference her junior year and All-Conference Honorable Mention her sophomore season.

As a club player, Hansen led the Milwaukee Sting to a ninth place finish (out of 180 teams) at the AAU Nationals. This June will mark the seventh straight season the Milwaukee Sting have competed in the nationals.

An honor student and national honor society member, Hansen plans on majoring in speech pathology.
