Duquesne's swimming team won 11 of 14 races en route to a 149-108 victory over visiting Youngstown State Saturday afternoon at Towers Pool.

"It was nice to have the opportunity to switch the line-up around a little and continue to get a feel for where we are as team," said head coach David Sheets. "YSU had some solid swimmers but lacked the depth. We stressed to the team today that it was going to be important for everyone to get up and race, in some cases against the clock and not their opponent."

"The team is showing the consistently in meets that is reflective of their consistency in practice," Sheets continued. "They continue to work hard to make themselves better, but more importantly, to make Duquesne swimming better. We have a great bunch of ladies and I continue to get more and more excited about the direction of the team and the program."

The Dukes set the tone early, taking first and third place in the 400 medley relay with the winning team posting a time of 3:57.48. They followed that with two more first place finishes as Claire Nobles won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:47.33 and Nicole Bruneel touched first in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.52.

After placing 2-3-4 in the 100 backstroke, DU took another win as Meghan Smith was triumphant in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.69. Line Lovberg followed with a win in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.74, followed by another victory by Smith in the 50 free in 25.14.

The Penguins won the 100 free and 200 back before the Red and Blue won the final five races of the day. Lillian Nelson won the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.59, Miriam McGeath took the 500 free in 5:21.90, Lovberg won the 100 fly in 58.18, McGeath won the 200 individual medley in 2:11.83 and the 400 free relay was victorious in 3:37.92.

The Dukes return to action on Friday, Nov. 22 as they compete in the three-day Cleveland State Invitational.
