Swimmers Helping Out With Breast Cancer Awareness

Oct. 19, 2011

The Duquesne, St. Francis and CCSU swimming teams are working to raise $1,000 each to donate to The American Cancer Society of Pittsburgh. Throughout the month of October all three programs will be wearing pink caps and raising money for breast cancer awareness. The culmination of the fundraising efforts will be the Duquesne/St. Francis/CCSU Tri meet @ Towers Pool on October 29th, 2011 at 1 PM.

The team is asking for a donation to be made at the door if you are able to attend this event. They will be giving out Duquesne swimming schedule magnets to those attendees who donate $5 or more. In the weeks leading up to the Tri- Meet, the Dukes will be asking for donations via a Swim-A-Thon and a cap signing.

The Swim-a-thon will take place during a practice on October 23, 2011. The entire team, including the coaching staff, will be swimming for this great cause. An average practice is about 6,000 yards (240 laps). You can donate by the lap, by the yard, designate your amount based on that or make a flat donation.

After the completion of these events the three teams will submit their efforts to The American Cancer Society of Pittsburgh. The hope is for this to become a yearly event, with the last fundraiser being at the home team's pool. All donations will go to the team's local Cancer Society.

Every bit can help our effort even if you are unable to make the Swim-A-Thon or Tri-meet a donation would be much appreciated! You can mail your donation to:
