PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team hosted its annual alumni match this past weekend.
"We had an exciting and fun afternoon of volleyball with our alumni," said head coach Steve Opperman. "This year we had more players than last year's inaugural event."
Returning to the Bluff were nine former Dukes in Jessica Artman ('10), Robin (Collet) Joyce ('94), Kristin Garnett ('08), Jenni Gross ('07), Amanda Haeg (`07), Lindsay Hess ('08), Amanda Humphrey ('09) and Chelsea Tillotson ('10). Sherene Lemonias ('02) returned in a coaching role.
The 2010 squad defeated the alumni 5-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-10).
"We wanted to thank the alumni for returning to campus to help us prepare for our upcoming season," added Opperman. Our team and staff thoroughly enjoyed seeing familiar faces as well as new ones. We look forward to future years as we hope to continue to get more alumni back to play."
The current Duquesne volleyball team will get its season started on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. when they host Lehigh as part of the two-day Courtyard by Marriott Invitational.
