Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Championship Bracket
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The field of six is set for the 29th annual Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Championship, which commences on Friday, Nov. 19, at Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. With its spotless 15-0 mark in league play, defending champion Dayton has secured the top-seed, followed by #2 Xavier, #3 Saint Louis, #4 Duquesne, #5 Fordham and #6 Charlotte.
At 15-0 in the A-10 and 24-3 overall, Dayton becomes just the second team in the league since 1998 to go unbeaten in conference play. The 17th-ranked Flyers earned their eighth regular season title and are looking to win their sixth Championship in eight years.
Xavier (19-/12-3) advances to the Championship for the 13th consecutive year and will be the second-seed in this year's event. The Musketeers will vie for the program's second (2001) Championship crown and, along with Dayton, will receive a first-round bye.
Last year's Championship runner-up Saint Louis (18-11/11-4) is the third seed and will make its fifth-straight appearance in the Championship, seeking its third title in five years.
Duquesne (22-9/10-5) earns the fourth seed in this year's Championship and will make its first appearance in the event since 2004. The Dukes' 22 win set a Division I program record this season and their 10 conference wins tied the mark set in 1997.
Fordham (17-17/7-8) and Charlotte (16-14/7-8) both qualified for the Championship and tied for the fifth-spot. The Rams claimed the fifth-seed after defeating the 49ers earlier this season, thereby making Charlotte the sixth and final seed. Fordham earns its fourth Atlantic 10 Tournament bid in the last five seasons, while Charlotte qualifies for the Championship for the second consecutive year.
Charlotte will face Saint Louis in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 19 at 5:00 pm (ET), followed by Duquesne versus Fordham at Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm (ET). The first-round winners will meet the top seeds, Dayton and Xavier, in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 21, beginning at 5:00 pm (ET). The Championship match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 3:00 pm (ET).
The title match of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship will air live on CBS College Sports.
Tickets to the Atlantic 10 Women's Volleyball Championship will be available at the Cintas Center ticket office the day of the matches. A single day ticket may be purchased for $6 for adults or $3 for A-10 students and $4 for children 18 and under and senior citizens. A three-day pass is available for $15 for adults.
