Dukes Drop Home Opener to Visiting Akron

Duquesne's swimming team competed in its first home meet of the season and fell to visiting Akron, 116-89 Friday evening at Towers Pool.

The Dukes jumped out to a 27-9 lead after the first two events, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:58.44 and having junior Hannah Kondrotas take first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a Duquesne season-best time of 10:44.43.

The Zips, however captured first place in six of the next seven events to secure the victory.

Sophomore Miriam McGeath captured victories in the 200 IM in a personal, season-best time of 2:10.89 and the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:08.44

Freshman Meghan Smith finished second in the 200-free in 1:57.33 and the 100 butterfly in 59.37

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Nov. 20 as they host Colgate at 1:00 p.m at Towers Pool.
