CHARLOTTE - Less than 24 hours after a five set victory that lasted over two hours over George Washington on Friday night, the Duquesne volleyball team had another difficult road match on Saturday when they visited Charlotte.

Just like Friday's match, the Dukes went five sets and played over two hours. And just like Friday, the Dukes came from behind to win. The scores of the sets were 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15, 15-12. With the victory, DU improves to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

The Dukes recorded double-doubles in Sara Scheirman (13 kills, 13 digs), Nicole Wright (team-high 16 kills, 12 digs) and Allison Foschia (13 kills, 14 digs). Amy Palko added 14 digs and Liz Homan 14 kills while hitting .462 for DU who swept the two-game road trip.

Duquesne was up 21-18 in the first set, but the 49ers (9-9, 0-3) scored five straight points to take a 23-21 lead. Back-to-back kills by Scheirman and Wight tied the score at 23-23. The 49ers would score the next two points to take the first set 25-23.

The Dukes led from start-to-finish in the second set. After scoring the set's first five points, DU would take a lead of eight points at 20-12. Foschia's kill ended the set at 25-19.

The 49ers controlled the third set 25-20 to go up in the match 2-1.

After splitting the first 18 points, Duquesne would pull ahead and hold the lead. A block from Homan and Foschia tied the contest at 2-2 after the Dukes won the fourth set 25-15.

Duquesne got kills from Foschia and Scheirman and an ace from Wright to go up 3-0 in the fifth set. Charlotte would cut the DU lead to a point at 7-6 and against at 11-10, but the Niners would score only one more point the rest of the way. The match ended after a Charlotte attack error that gave Duquesne a 15-12 win the deciding set.

The Dukes will have a well-deserved 12-day break before they host Fordham on Oct. 12 at the Palumbo Center. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
