WEST HYANNISPORT, Mass. - Duquesne's Sarah Cates, Janna Faulkner, Caitilin Kilty, Kat McNish, Mollie Montgomery, Casey Myburgh and Marissa Rosenbaum were named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Team.
The Dukes were second only to Stanford, who placed eight student-athletes on the team, among Division I schools honored. Additionally, the seven student athletes are the most the Dukes have had since the 2005 squad also had seven players honored.
All student-athletes were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of at least 3.5 or were in the top 10 percent of their squad.
Cates, who was a member of the 2009 Atlantic 10 All-Academic team, set a career-best with 50 draw controls that ranked tied for third in the conference. Cates is member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List. She is majoring in mathematics with a GPA of 3.77.
Faulkner, a two-time member of the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team, has recorded 63 points for her career. A 2007 A-10 All-Rookie honor, she is a member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List. The sociology major has a GPA of 3.92.
Kilty, who missed 11 matches due to injury this past season, is a member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List. Majoring in elementary education, she has a GPA of 3.59.
McNish, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year, missed all of the 2009 season with an injury. She finished her junior season by becoming the Dukes' all-time assist leader with 111. Her career-high 43 assists led all A-10 players in 2008. A member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List, McNish is majoring in elementary education and has a GPA of 3.68.
Montgomery was a member of the 2009 Atlantic 10 All-Academic team. She was a four-year starter who anchored the defense and finished her career 11th all-time in program history with 114 ground balls. A member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List, Montgomery graduated this past May with a degree in elementary education and a GPA of 3.56.
In her first season as a starter, Myburgh picked up a career-best 19 ground balls. Alongside Montgomery on defense, she helped limit the opposition to just 469 shots for the season. She is a member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List. The integrated marketing communication major has a GPA of 3.65.
Rosenbaum, set career-highs in ground balls and draw controls this past season while coming off the bench on defense. Majoring in journalism, Rosenbaum is a member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and Director of Athletics' Honor Rolls and the Dean's List. She has a GPA of 3.61.
