PITTSBURGH - Coming into Sunday's game against Temple, Duquesne needed two things to happen to earn a spot in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship - defeat the Owls and have La Salle upset George Washington. The Dukes took care of business on their end with a 13-8 victory, but the Colonials played spoiler with a 16-4 rout of the Explorers to knock DU out of the conference post-season.

Duquesne ends its 2009 season 9-8 overall and 4-3 in A-10 play. The Dukes tie GW for fourth place in the conference, but loses the head-to-head tie breaker via their loss on March 27.

Meghan Frederick recorded a game-best six points and in the process broke the school's and Atlantic 10 Conference single-season record for assists with 44. Senior Ashley Wood scored five times to give her a career-high 54 goals for the season. Katie Rekart and Liz Fey added a pair of goals and Sarah Carson and Alicia Krause added one goal each for the Dukes who earn their first victory over Temple since 2006 and third in 18 tries.

Melissa Schweitzer and Brittney Hoffman each registered a hat trick for Temple, whose season ends at 3-12, 2-5.

The Owls got on the board first before the Dukes came back with 11 consecutive goals in the first half. Frederick opened up the scoring in the second half to give Du their largest lead of the match at 12-1.

Although Temple would score seven of the next eight goals (Duquesne's goal was scored by Cason from Sarah Cates) they could not catch up as the Dukes took the match 13-8, ending the season on a four-game winning streak.

Keepers Caitlin Carducci (49 minutes, 3 saves) and Sara Beckstead (11 minutes, 1 save) split time between the pipes for DU.

Duquesne's had 40 shots on goal to Temple's 16. The Dukes also had 14 ground balls to the Owls' 11 and had 12 turnovers to TU's 16.

• Wood's 54 goals ties her with Ginger Flocco for the third best in a single-season
