FSN Pittsburgh to Air - Spotlight: The City Game

Nov. 25, 2009

A rivalry so volatile it had to be shut down for 14 years, The City Game between Pitt and Duquesne has raged from the 1930s to the present day often with intense degrees of heat.

Two miles apart down Forbes Avenue, the Panthers and Dukes have combated over the same turf, the same players, the same attention around Pittsburgh, and the same source of pride.

Those ingredients spiced up legendary matchups such as Sam Clancy vs Bruce Atkins, created controversial games, and spurred epic performances from the likes of Norm Nixon and Billy Knight.

Temperatures boiled over into physical clashes on many occasions, but the rivalry stopped short of detest for one another. Players on both sides claimed respect for their foes, yet also an intense ache for victory.

"Spotlight: the City Game" is a one-hour special on FSN that explores and brings to life the great games, memorable stories and colorful figures of the Pitt/Duquesne rivalry, including interviews with Don Hennon, Sam Clancy, Brandin Knight, Darelle Porter, Willie Somerset, BB Flenory, Bruce Atkins, Norm Nixon, Jarrett Durham and many more.

The show will debut at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and will be re-aired on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 pm.
