Volleyball Wins Opening Match of Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational

PITTSBURGH - Freshmen Brittany Poling and Tricia Mullen combined for 29 kills as Duquesne held off Marist 3-2 in the opening match of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational.

The Dukes dominated the first set behind five Polling kills. DU came out of the gates on a 9-2 run and never looked back. The DU lead was a high as 13 points (18-5) as they took the first set 25-13.

In the second set, three straight points behind the serving of Amy Palko gave the Dukes a 23-20 lead. A Sarah Svorinic ace capped the second set scoring as the Dukes won 25-22.

After dropping the third and fourth sets, DU led from beginning to end in the fifth and decisive set as a Polling kill gave the Dukes a 15-11 victory and 3-2 match victory.

The Dukes face Saint Francis, Pa. at 7:00 p.m. in the third match of the evening. The Red Flash defeated Marist 3-1 earlier today.
