AMHERST - Temple's Berkley Summerlin scored five times and Bridget McMullan made a game-high six saves as the Duquesne lacrosse team fell 14-10 to Temple in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals Friday afternoon.
DU's Meghan Frederick tied Championship record with five assists and Ashley Wood had a team-high four goals
Temple got on the scoreboard just 1:45 into the contest on a Summerlin goal. On the next possession, Wood's shot bounced off the crossbar and the ground ball was picked by TU's Lindsay Wells. The Owls maintained control of the ball until a Whitney Richards goal gave Temple a 2-0 lead.
Richards scored her second goal of the match at the 24:44 mark of the first half to give TU a 3-0 lead.
Sarah Carson took a Meghan Frederick pass and found the back to the net for the Dukes' first goal of the match at 23:13. Temple responded less than a minute later on a Summerlin goal to give the Owls a 4-1 lead.
The Dukes would score three of the next four goals (Wood, Kat McNish and Liz Fey) to get within one goal at 5-4. However, Temple would close out the half scoring four of the next five goals to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
The Dukes and Owls exchanged goals three times to begin the second half. McNish scored her second of the contest with a wrap around at 25:22. Janna Faulkner scored on a shot from the top-right of the circle at 16:52 and Wood bounced a shot past McMullan at 15:13, but the Dukes' deficit was still four goals at 12-8.
Temple would take their largest lead of the match, 14-8, after scoring two consecutive goals with 8:15 remaining.
Wood scored a pair of identical spinning goals at 7:06 and 2:28 to make the score 14-10, but neither would score the rest of the way.
Both teams were closely matched in shots (20 for TU, 19 for DU) and ground balls (15 for DU, 14 for TU). Temple won 16 of 26 draw controls and caused 12 turnovers to Duquesne's 10.

Frederick tied the A-10 Championship record for assists with Kelly Ruch, who got the record against Duquesne in 2000
McNish extended her scoring streak to 18 matches
The Dukes fall to 3-7 all-time in the A-10 Championship, five of those losses came against Temple

Duquesne will lose three seniors to graduation - Caitlin Kistler, Tyneisha Harris and Lea Lamatina
