Duquesne's women's swimming team captured four medals and set four school records Saturday evening en route to a University best third place finish at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Red and Blue tallied 470 team points, just 18 behind second place Xavier.
Freshman Angela Majkut commenced the scoring for the Dukes, turning in an eighth place performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:42.86 for 11 team points.
Senior Kyla Favret secured Duquesne's first medal of the evening, winning gold in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.49, a new school record. Also scoring here were freshmen Tara VanNatta in 10th place in 2:06.25 and Briana Mangis in 12th in 2:07.37.
The Dukes strongest and deepest event of the evening came next as senior Melissa Johnson captured the gold medal in the 100 freestyle in a school record time of 50.96. She was followed by junior Katrina Streiner in third in 51.95, junior Christina Sherrard in ninth in 52.39 and senior Lauren Stephens in 10th in 53.08.
Another school record fell in the 200 breaststroke as senior Katie McHugh went 2:23.31 to take ninth place. Fellow senior Mary Beth Gorinski touched in 2:24.61 to finish 12th.
Freshman Kirstie Shumaker led the Red and Blue in the 200 butterfly, finishing seventh with a time of 2:06.98 while fellow frosh Lori Yeaman placed eighth in 2:09.29.
The evening culminated with a second place effort in the 400 free relay as Johnson, Stephens, Sherrard and Streiner combined to set the school record in 3:26.68.
In all, the Red and Blue won 12 medals and set 14 school records, nine individual and all five relays.
