PITTSBURGH - Dana McLaughlin's double-double of 17 kills and 22 assists were both career-highs as Duquesne (3-1) handed North Dakota State their first loss of the season 3-2 Friday night as part of the Courtyard by Marriott Invitational.
NDSU (4-1) came out the gates with a 30-18 game one victory. Duquesne took the next two games 30-23 and 30-22 before the Bison won game four 30-26.
With the fifth game tied at 3-3, a North Dakota State service error gave the Dukes a lead they would not relinquish. Jenni Gross' 16th kill of the night with the Dukes leading 14-10 ended the contest and gave the Dukes their second victory in a row.
Nicole Wright, coming off being named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, had 15 kills and 16 digs. Amy Palko led DU with 25 digs and McLaughlin tied her career-best with four service aces. Kristin Garnett's 59 assists was just three of a new career-high.
In other action this afternoon, Youngstown State defeated UNC Greensboro 3-1. Tomorrow, Duquesne will play UNC Greensboro at 11:00 a.m. The 4:00 p.m. game will by Bucknell vs. UNC Greensboro followed by Duquesne vs. Bucknell at 7:00 p.m.
