Duquesne University sixth year women's swimming coach David Sheets recently announced the addition of seven student-athletes to the 2007-08 roster. Briana Mangis (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny), Kirstie Shumaker (Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) and Lori Yeaman (Dover, NH/Dover) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Duquesne for the 2007-08 academic year while Heather Cloud, Elysse Leriotis, Michelle Less and Angela Majkut also committed to the Dukes for this fall.
These seven will join Elizabeth Berk (Nashville, TN/Gateway Christian), Erin Sykes (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) and Tara VanNatta (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands) who signed with the Dukes during the early signing period.
Mangis is a four-time WPIAL and State qualifier in the 100-yard backstroke, 200 individual medley and various relays. She is a former WPIAL champion in the 100 back and a WPIAL runner-up in the 200 IM. A four-year team MVP, she also finished in the top 10 in the state all four years in the 100 back and twice finished among the top eight in the state in the 200 IM. In addition, she qualified in every WPIAL event as a junior and senior.
Shumaker is a four-year letter-winner and two-time high school All-American. She finished third in the state in the 100-yard butterfly in 2006 and 2007 and was a three-time recipient of the Coaches Award. Her team was three-time Central Catholic League champions as well as district champions in 2005-06 and district runners-up in 2006-07.
Yeaman is a former state champion in the 200 individual medley and was a state runner-up in the 100 butterfly (twice) and 500 freestyle. A two-time varsity letter-winner she was a 2005-06 Scholar Athlete Award recipient and helped lead her team to the state championship title.
