Senior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) led Duquesne and the match with 16 kills and 13 digs as the Dukes (4-2) swept Delaware State (0-3) 3-0 in day two of the Omni William Penn Invitational at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Junior Jenni Gross (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) added 10 kills and freshman Chelsea Tillotson (Adrian, Mich./Tecumseh) contributed 10 digs and 21 assists. Duquesne now stands 3-0 for the tournament.
The Hornets were paced by Cassandra Joyner with nine kills, 11 digs and four blocks.
The Dukes took game one 30-19 hitting .231 (13-4-9) for the match which saw Delaware State hit in the negative making 14 errors on 39 swings with 10 kills. Game two saw the Red & Blue win 30-22 while game three gave the Dukes the win with a 30-21 decision. Duquesne hit .357 in that game recording 21 kills and just six errors on 42 attempts.
For the match, the Dukes held a 53-33 kills advantage and 55-46 digs edge. Delaware State had four service aces to the Dukes three.
Delaware State will face Indiana State at 3:30 pm while the Dukes close out the tournament hosting IPFW at 7:30 at the Palumbo.
