The Duquesne women's lacrosse team won its third straight taking visiting Howard 19-6 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference bout on Rooney Field. Duquesne (5-2) was led by Courtney Tamasitis with four goals; three caused turnovers and Kathleen McNish with five assists. Notching three goals each for the Dukes was Kelly Mulford, Caroline Gallagher and Keri Drexel. Drexel recorded four draw controls and four ground balls while Mollie Montgomery registered four ground balls and three draws won. Leading Howard was Sakita Holly with two scores.
Ashley Wood opened the game's scoring with a feed from Meg Cloutman just :59 into play before Cloutman hit two scores within a minute for a 3-0 Duquesne lead. Gallagher posted two straight scores assisted by Cloutman and Meredith Williams for a 5-0 lead and the Dukes would up their streak to an 11-0 edge 17:33 into play before Iram Abdullah put the Bison on the board with a free position goal at 23:55. Gallagher hit an unassisted score and Drexel scored from McNish for a 13-1 edge before a free position goal by Dominique Browner at 29:26 put the game at 13-2 in favor of the Dukes, who would take the lead into the break.
Tamasitis' unassisted goal 4:54 into the second half started the frame's scoring followed by a Howard score from Holly. Duquesne would go ahead 18-3 on an unassisted goal by Williams 14:18 into play. Howard found the back of the cage two more times for an 18-6 game before Tamasitis took the feed from Cloutman nearly 23 minutes into play for the 19-6 final.
Mulford's goal at 11:29 in the first frame constituted the game-winner.
Keeper Meredith Norris recorded four saves facing 14 shots. Duquesne held the advantage in groundballs (31-20) and draws (16-11).
The Dukes will have a week off before hosting Robert Morris on Tuesday, Mar. 28, at 4:00 pm on Rooney Field.
