Box Score
Duquesne suffered a 9-7 loss at Denver Sunday afternoon despite a solid second-half surge. Down 1-6 at the break, Duquesne out-scored the Pioneers 6-3 in the second frame but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Courtney Tamasitis and Margaret Cloutman led the Dukes with two goals each.
Ashley Wood scored the Dukes' only first half goal (unassisted) 13 minutes into action.
Kelly Mulford opened the second frame with a quick unassisted score 1:06 into the frame but Denver notched a free position score for a 7-2 edge. Cloutman hit two scored and Tamasitis one over a seven span for a 7-5 reach with just over 14 minutes ticking. Denver hit two scores with 13 and six minutes ticking to up its lead to 9-5 but the Red & Blue would not give up as they feisty play allowed them two free position scores - one each by Tamasitis and Caroline Gallagher - with six and two minutes remaining respectively but the Dukes would not see the lead.
Allison Smith and Mollie Montgomery had four ground balls each while Stacie Pollock forced two Denver turnovers to lead the Dukes.
Keeper Meredith Norris recorded 16 saves facing 25 shots on goal.
